Coon Dog Day:

July 11, 2009 marked the 46th Annual Coon Dog Day Festival.  This is a celebration of dogs and their people, with a parade like no other.  It has food, music, crafts, a street dance that goes on for hours, and much more.  It attracts over 10,000 people to this tiny town.

 

Saluda Home Town Christmas:

Main Street is all decked out, and there are refreshments and live music in every shop in town.  It is sponsored by the Saluda Business Association and is held the second Saturday in December.

 

Saluda Annual Arts and Music Festival

Saluda hosts artists and craftspersons from Western NC and Upstate SC.  It is a judged show and about 70 artists set up displays of their work.

 

NC Apple Festival

An annual even over Labor Day Weekend held along Main Street in Hendersonville.  It is one of the largest Apple Festival in the U.S.

 

Bele Chere

Four stages of free - live music in downtown Ashville.  It's a real "Battle of the Bands" with an impressive array of arts and crafts.

 

Southern Highland Handicraft Fair

Held twice a year in Ashville, July and October.  This is a must for anyone interested in crafts.

 

Brevard Music Festival

Internationally known music with outstanding opera and chamber music, as well as other music and activities.  Held from June to August.

 

Biltmore House and Gardens

George Vanderrbilt's mansion offers year round events, including their famous Christmas Tour, and their outstanding display of flowers in the gardens.  In Ashville, about 30 minutes from Saluda.

 

Flat Rock Playhouse

Parts of Flat Rock are less than 10 miles from Saluda.  This world-known playhouse has productions from June to October.

 

Carl Sandburg's Home and Farm

A National Trust Property that includes his summer, then permanent home, with the  original furnishings, a working sheep farm, hiking trails, a large pond with picnic areas, a gift shop with his books of poetry and constant videos about his life and music.  It is open year round with special music and other events throughout the year.  It is located across from the Flat Rock Playhouse, very close to Saluda.  It's a must  see.

 

Saluda Mountain Jamboree:

This offers live music and dancing every Saturday night.  The variety of dancing offers something for everone, including square- dancing.  The Jamboree is held every Saturday night in a 1200  climate controlled structure square foot structure, with state of the art sound equipment.  It host professional musicians and vocalists.
